Here a Les Paul Custom is being prepared for a new nut. Cutting down the center of the original nut was done to ease removal, as it is in a 3-sided channel. A blade was also used to prevent any lacquer chipping around the old nut.

Nut is cut down the center.
Here we see a clean removal. The slot is cleaned / prepared and it is now ready for the new nut.
A mastodon nut blank was requested and it is shaped, fitted and glued.
Here is the finished nut, cut to the owners specs. I also touched up the new nut with lacquer (like the original).
